Our Kids lists culinary camps from across the country. Find camps in cities listed below.
Get cooking! These are ideal for children as young as 7, continuing right up to sessions for teens and beyond. Often, camps are run in conjunction with culinary academies, set within a professional environment, and conducted by professional chefs who love teaching food preparation. Weekly sessions are often run around a specific theme, such as the food of a certain region, or a specific style of cooking. Daily schedules may revolve around different meals, snacks, dessert preparation, international cuisine variations, and more. Some camps or sessions will lead up to a cooking competition that adds to the fun of camp.
Develop creativity. Cooking is a very creative activity, of course, and cooking camp is a relaxed environment where counselors and teachers encourage kids to explore, experiment and try new things. Kids discover that things may not always work out or that they work out differently than expected. They may fail but even in this they learn valuable lessons that they carry forward into the future. Learn more about how cooking camp develops creativity, but also independence and other valuable character traits.
Develop more skills than just cooking. Skills teens and kids develop here have applications elsewhere, including managing complex projects and understanding the importance of following instruction and procedures. Preparing food can also be a springboard to a range of science topics. Learning here will apply to things as varied as health and fitness to nutritional science and chemistry.
In all cases, the goal is to have a good time, make some friends, and get some valuable hands-on experience in the kitchen. At cooking camp, kids can truly have their fun and eat it, too.
Baking and decorating camps are an obvious complement to cooking camps, especially if baking is your true passion.
Cooking classes are a great way to grow more skills after school or on weekends. These programs keep kids away from screens and encourage consistent learning and personal growth.
Baking and decorating classes for kids are another great way for kids to explore the kitchen. Kids at these after-school programs might even bring home some tasty confections for dessert.
