What you’ll learn in a mountain biking camp

Camps that specifically focus on this sport will teach the following:

Mountain biking safety. Camps teach bike handling skills and how to keep your bike trailworthy. Campers will learn all the essentials of trail safety, things like clipping in, along with other aspects of safety.

Basic upkeep and mechanics. Campers learn how to stay on top of bike maintenance and to keep their bike in safe working condition.

Trail etiquette. Campers will also learn the essentials of trail etiquette, how to work with others on the trail, and responsible riding.

Terrain navigation. Campers will learn how to bike in various terrains and be given techniques for dealing with short hills, rapid switchbacks (with endos), and drops.

Gain mountain biking experience. They’ll dive deep into the experience of trail riding, learning about dealing with bonking and knowing when to bail.

Benefits kids gain at a mountain biking camp

Confidence and spirit. Camp takes kids away from the watchful eyes of parents, giving them space to explore biking, as well as relationships with others. They gain mountain biking skills and experience with trail riding and explore a love of biking and the outdoors, growing a greater appreciation for the natural world.

Advanced motor skills. Mountain biking demands reaction time and speed. No matter how competitive your child is at the sport, everyone gains in athletic skills while taking part in this strenuous sport.

Physical literacy and fitness. They’re outside, they’re on the move, biking for hours at a time. At advanced camps, biking and training can be physically demanding. Even at camps where this is one activity among others, they gain physical literacy (aka the joy of physical activity) which becomes both muscle memory and mental memory carried into the future.
