WindReach Farm’s Acres of Fun Summer Camp is held on a 105-acre accessible farm. We provide campers with the opportunity to escape the hectic pace of life in the city and to connect with, and appreciate, the wonders of nature. We fill their days with animal interactions in our barn, at the horse stables, and around the farm, learning how to groom and care for the animals. In addition, campers will have access to our natural playground, learn about how the fleeces from our sheep are turned into wool onsite, and spend time exploring the vast, accessible property. Acres of Fun is an inclusive camp, providing a camp opportunity for campers with disabilities to access activities they wouldn’t be able to elsewhere.

OUR KIDS review of WindReach Farm

Acres of Fun camp, at WindReach Farm near Ashburn, invites children ages 6‑13 to explore life in the country, grow, and learn in a supportive rural environment. From horse grooming and hay‑wagon rides to geocaching, gardening and arts & crafts, the camp encourages curiosity, fun, and personal growth in the great outdoors. The camp was founded by the inspiring Sandy Mitchell, who overcame cerebral palsy to become a Paralympian and start WindReach Farm in the 1980s. Acres of Fun reflects Sandy’s perseverance and his commitment to community and hands-on learning, now led by Ross Ste-Croix and a staff of enthusiastic educators and leaders. Kids feel supported and cared for at this inspiring rural camp experience.

    Director's Message

WindReach Farm, Ross Ste-Croix, Executive Director
Growing up, I worked in summer camps in Montreal as a camp counsellor and then as a tennis instructor. More recently, I have overseen inclusive camps for children at a number of disability organizations. While they all had their specialties and that special 'camp' feeling, the Acres of Fun summer camp at WindReach Farm offers something truly unique. It is an opportunity to let our kids experience nature and build bonds with each other and our animals in an environment that isn't dominated by phones, social media, and constant in-your-face messaging. WindReach Farm is a place for children of all abilities to experience camp and farming together, to learn about each other, and to do so in an environment where they aren't being rushed or bombarded, and where they can hear themselves think. As a parent myself, and one who has spent the better part of their career advocating for individuals with disabilities, it's important to me that my sons be exposed to children with different needs and interests and backgrounds as early as possible. In this way, I can ensure that they grwo up understanding the value in our differences, and that we can all learn from, and help, each other. Plus, our animals are adorable and what kid can't make good use of 105 acres to burn off some energy?! Check us out and see why families are sending their children back to our Acres of Fun summer camp year after year.

    Staff and Counsellors

Our camp is staffed by a Camp Coordinator and a minimum of 4 camp counsellors. We always maintain a staff-to-camper ratio of 1:5 in our Acres of Fun summer camp. We always hire a Camp Coordinator who has previous camp experience and is working towards a University Education degree (or similar). Our camp is overseen by our Executive Director who has an Education degree and 10+ years working in, and overseeing summer camps. WindReach Farm is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who are responsible for the governance of the organization.
