(5) Overall experience

Both of my children were eager to attend DnD at Ravenwood. The program has not disappointed us in any way. Every week my kids are excited to get to their session. Often they are energetically discussing what might happen that afternoon and laughing while recalling a previous weeks adventure. I would absolutely send my kids back time and time again. The staff always make them feel welcomed and are just as excited to spend the afternoon playing a campaign. It truly is the highlight of my son's week and it has become a cornerstone activity for him.

(5) Reason for choosing the camp

We had been searching for a youth DND program for the last few years. A few other options didn't provide year-round play or lacked the feeling of a natural campaign. Ravenwood was immediately responsive and organized when coordinating their youth program. It was clear they had a passion to share their love of the activity with others and were flexible to work with clients to make the experience the best match. This is a niche experience. It was an easy choice given my children's interest and the lack of opportunities in the area. But after our first session, it was clear that Ravenwood was going to be worth sticking with. The cost was clear and provide various payment options. There were not hidden costs. In fact compared to previous programs it feels like better value for the price and atmosphere.

(5) Program quality and activities

The program completely encompassed my kids' interests with regard to DnD. And any additional activities they offer align. Everything provided is well thought out. The flexibility in the program coordinators to work with the group for students and their interests is amazing. The campaign can vary based on how the kids interact, and the leaders never fail to get creative and let the story unfold in a fun and engaging way. This is a huge plus. It is hard to find leaders who respond so effectively to a group. Ravenwood has regularly sought feedback and adjusted as necessary. They are very good at communicating expectations and plans. Clear emails are sent prior to program start dates, and check-ins occur as needed throughout.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

My kids have made new friends during their sessions with Ravenwood. The program is based around small group dynamics. Everyone needs to be able to communicate and feel comfortable participating. Due to this there are several learning moments where kids need to problem solve, compromise and be considerate of one another. The leaders led the groups through these moments with great consideration. In situations where campaign members struggled to work together they discussed the importance of being a team and finding solutions that would work.

(5) Skills and growth

Both of my children have grown in their creativity and communication. The program has allowed them to think outside the box and regularly navigate different group discussions. DND easily facilitates creative thinking, but Ravenwood has allowed for this to flourish. The leaders have provided ample opportunities for my kids to consider consequences and problem solve through their campaigns. Each week I see them growing in confidence to speak up.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

My kids love the staff. Their ability to relate to the kids and make them feel welcomed and valued has been huge. The staff effortlessly chat with them and engage inside of the program time and out (upon arrive/departure). They are incredibly welcoming and considerate. The leaders have been very flexible and responsive to group dynamics. My kids really appreciate that they can discuss and reason out various DND rules and group expectations together. This has made the experience way more fun and left my kids with a greater sense of autonomy. Other programs have felt too rigid, while Ravenwood adapts to the needs of their participants. The staff are very thorough and communicate clearly inside and outside of classes.

(5) Advice and tips

Our family would highly recommend Ravenwood. We have tried several other DnD options, and hands down Ravenwood is the best. They are very willing to grow and learn as they develop their programs and make sure anyone coming to try feels welcomed and is able to find the right DND experience. If you are sending your children to camp, know that Ravenwood is great at communicating, and they can support your children better if you take time to communicate any concerns with them. We are grateful for the experience and hope other kids can find the program enjoyable.
