Laugh More Comedy Camp answered our questions

Who are you as an organization?

Our camps are run under the registered charity banner Stand UP for Student Well Being. Our LAUGH MORE WORRY LESS comedy camp programs of 16 youth are led by our industry comedian coaches. Kids develop public speaking and confidence through improv and stand-up comedy. Over five days together, they discover their comedic voices in a supportive day camp in a small theatre. Campers write and perform their funny stories, culminating in a Showcase for family to enjoy!

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

"We are a one of a kind Comedy Camp led by professional comedians. We teach comedy writing and performing, along with well-being skills using healthy humour. The research we have conducted on our programs is impressive. Campers receive individualized instruction and coaching in stand up and improv comedy. Our small camp sizes bring out the best as campers get to make friends and build confidence in themselves. Parents love seeing their kids perform at the culminating showcase in a group improv and at the microphone themselves. "

Who are your staff and counsellors?

"Our camps feature a diverse group of industry comedians who teach from personal experience and our time-tested curriculum built on five years of camps! They connect directly with each camper and coach them to shine their best. Each camp has two supervisors as well as the comedian coach who assist in safety and behavioural expectations, taking kids outside the theatre for some activities and lunch, weather permitting in local parks and green spaces for some fresh air."

What do families need to know about registration?

The Our Kids review of Laugh More Comedy Camp

    our take

“The only honest art form is comedy,” said the legendary Lenny Bruce. That’s the idea behind Laugh More Comedy Camps, focused on promoting kids’ wellbeing. Laughter is one thing kids can and should never get enough of; perhaps that’s true now more than ever. Laugh More encourages kids to turn stories, anecdotes, incidents, and accidents into comedy gold. That gives healing for those with hurts and a needed outlet for others. Founded by Sue Stephenson, a lifelong teacher, and staffed by a diverse group of experienced comedians, actors, writers, and teachers, Laugh More gives kids the stage. Stepping forward to write then tell jokes is a gamble that can gift kids with increased confidence and self-awareness, and help them mature.

    Improv Camp Fantastic!

My son is 13 and last summer he did the improv camp with Sue's team of comedian coaches. We heard about it from his friend Henry in Toronto. Because of the pandemic it was online. My son loved the experience so much that he asked to do two further weeks of improv comedy and standup. My son has dyslexia and ADHD and had experienced some bullying at school. After the improv camp I saw an enormous boost of confidence inn my son. The skills he picked up from the comedian coach have also changed the way he interacts with his peers. And now he actually enjoys giving presentations at school ... Show More

    Thanks for Everything!

Thanks for everything! Comedy camp is awesome and we're so happy that our son was able to learn with you. :)

    Bethany Nurse, Parent

    My daughter's confidence grew!

The best thing about the camp was having my daughter's voice heard and other peers listen to her. She got her feet wet with something that she is passionate about. She was nervous at first because of her anxiety. She doesn't always want to speak in from of others. The coaches were very accepting of her. The open communication strengthened my daughter's confidence and being able to express herself and how she feels about herself. Having others laugh with her brought joy to her natural self. I would give the camp a score of 12 out of 10 ... Show More
