(5) Overall experience

Both my boys have been attending weekly teen CrossFit classes since they were 13. After each class, they come out proud of new personal bests that they have achieved. The workouts help to balance stressful days at school and provide a positive outlet for their energy. Their self-confidence has improved and they have both taken the confidence they have gained through CrossFit and applied it to other areas of their lives. The atmosphere is welcoming and non-judgemental teaching all the kids the value of sportsmanship. The coaches are encouraging and are definitely the reason it is such a positive experience.

(5) Reason for choosing the program

We first decided to join FCCF to help increase my son's self confidence and to give him something athletic to do that was not a team sport. This is the only gym that had a specific program geared towards teens. We felt like the program was a great value for both of our kids.

(5) Program quality and activities

The schedule includes set workout and then also incorporates fun and games into the class. The kids understand the structure of each class. Although the structure of the class is the same the activities that are focused on vary each day so there is no repetition and the kids don't get bored. The coaches are good at knowing individual athletes and working with them in the class to ensure they are working with them towards individual goals during the overall class.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

The atmosphere at the gym is very inclusive and everyone is made to feel welcome. Not only do the kids interact with each other but they also interact with the adult classes that happen simultaneously. They are encouraged by the adults and at the same time they cheer on the adults. Both of my boys have made friendships in the classes and enjoy going each week to connect with their friends. There is zero bullying at the gym.

(5) Skills and growth

Both my boys have gained increased strength throughout the time that they have attended CrossFit. They continuously hit new personal bests which in turn increases their confidence. My one son has started doing CrossFit competitions which challenges him and pushes him outside of his comfort zone. By attending CrossFit classes regularly, they have also increased their abilities in other sports that they play.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

The staff and coaches are all very friendly. They go out of their way to get to know each kid as an individual and work with them on their goals. They are very encouraging and welcoming to everyone regardless of fitness level. The staff always makes a point of stopping to talk to the families and sharing the accomplishments from the class.

(5) Advice and tips

I would recommend going to the gym and meeting the staff and coaches. The environment is friendly and welcoming. Being involved in CrossFit has increased both of my sons' confidence and pushed them out of their comfort zones. If possible I would see if there is an opportunity to observe a class to get the full picture of what a class looks like.
