The Our Kids review of Brick Works Academy

    our take

Not all camps are the same, but they all intend to do the same thing: to allow campers to learn about themselves, gain a sense of their talents, grow into a set of shared values, and then broadcast all of that to the world. David Goodfellow established Brick Works with precisely that in mind. While people normally think about summer camp as soccer balls in a park, or making pottery, he was aware that there is a huge group of children that want to learn with tech or socialize with others who share their passion and interests. That remains the core of the Brick Works offering. Kids are drawn by their interests in in subjects like Pokemon, Minecraft, or Harry Potter, and enter a community that shares those interests, and interacts with them in the same way. But that’s just the starting point. The camps allow them to grow together, work together, and exercise their minds around some shared projects. The success of the program is evident in its popularity with families, and its growth, now with multiple locations throughout southern Ontario.

    Loved Virtual Camps

Hello I just wanted to write you personally to commend your team on such a great job with these virtual camps. My son Jaxon signed up and took both the Digital storyteller and the Digital music producer courses. He absolutely loved them, showed me his work and everything he learned! He was the lowest age for the range, so I was a bit nervous, but the instructors kept his attention the entire hour.  Personally, I feel like you need a course to show parents how to hold their own kid's attention that long, because it's never worked for me! :) In all seriousness, these were great.  So professionally done, incredibly well organized and well thought out. Tyler even had extra office hours for the group, which was so generous and great for the kids.  Both instructors were patient with any technical problems, or when kids got excited to share stories. It was a perfect mix of making them feel heard, and encouraged while still bringing it back to the topic. He's been asking me to keep signing up for more (I just registered him for the app course now!). I love that these online virtual camps have inspired him, taught him new things  and have made him love learning - especially with the world going all crazy these days. Thank you and your team for offering such a great quality, top notch service for our community. Mandy ... Show More

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share our feelings by creating music. And for meeting your cat in the process :) Sincerely, Abigail (Julian’s mom). ... Show More

At Brick Works Academy we want all our students to be successfull and to have fun.

I founded Brick Works Academy out of a need for my own daughter to have a safe, fun location to learn and explore technology and lego robotics over the summer.  By bringing together certified teachers, ECEs and technology minded university students we were able to assemble a team with a well rounded skill set where students and teachers can learn and play together.  Adding in truck loads of lego, computers, and games was the final ingredient to create the region's leading technology summer camp where students are rushing out of their homes in the morning to go to camp and begging their parents to stay at the end of the day.

We have been entertaining and educating students for over 8 years and have attracted students from around the world. Last summer the response was overwhelmingly positive with parents and students asking us to develop new exciting camps to offer this summer.  I hope you find one or more of our camps that fit your interests and we will see you this summer.
