This course enables students to broaden their understanding of mathematical relationships and extend their problem solving and algebraic skills through investigation, the effective use of technology and abstract reasoning. Students will explore the quadratic relations and their application, solve and apply linear systems, investigate and apply analytic geometry to problems, and investigate the trigonometry of right angled triangles and non-right triangles and their applications. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems.
This course will take place during the month of August and the delivery of the course material relies on technology to establish a live daily connection between the teacher and the students. Students will work in groups or as a whole class interacting with the teacher and their peers using text, audio, video and screen sharing. This live correspondence will take place in the mornings (Eastern Daylight Time), from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Students will continue with their independent work for 2 hours daily after their online time using the shared OneNote Binders, with access to video solutions from Appleby teachers and asynchronous chat with students and faculty. Feedback on homework is provided by the teacher as students work their way through the curriculum.
