The Bishop Strachan School TUITION AND FINANCIAL AID

Tuition is always a key concern of parents. The cost of tuition is set by individual schools, and varies widely. It is important to note that tuition does not necessarily cover all costs, and additional fees may apply for other resources or access to facilities at the school. Financial assistance of various kinds is sometimes available.

We believe that cost shouldn’t be a barrier to an outstanding education. Financial assistance is a cornerstone of our commitment to providing an inclusive and accessible education. It ensures that more girls of grit, character and promise can discover themselves at BSS, and go on to do great things. Financial assistance is offered to students entering Grades 6 to 12. Through tuition and program assistance, we support families who need extra help with costs. Our merit-based scholarships encourage and reward students who demonstrate exceptional academic, artistic or athletic achievements. Donations from our generous community make this possible. Every year, BSS allocates over $2 million in financial assistance, the most of any girls’ school in Canada. To learn more about applying for financial assistance through our third party assessor, Apple Financial, and the scholarships available at BSS, please join us for this virtual information session on Thursday, November 5, 6:00 pm.

Qualitative insights

These insights are based on conversations with parents, alumni, and school leadership. Handpicked and curated by our editor, they offer a close look at how the school is experienced and perceived by those who know it best.

BSS proactively seeks ways to support its students and families. We didn’t know what financial assistance was when I joined BSS. One of the staff approached me and mentioned the school's financial assistance program, which was information my parents wouldn’t have had otherwise due to their limited English. The school's willingness to find ways to offer us support first meant a lot. Quite honestly, it was the only thing that enabled me to finish my time at BSS. The fact that BSS was willing to provide financial support to students who needed and deserved it is a unique strength of the school.
When I was Head Prefect, my biggest goal was to focus on students like me who were receiving financial aid — to not only represent them but to make sure they feel like they belong. Because they DO! The school has done a good job by continuously welcoming them, and by making the financial aid pool even larger each year, so that more and more students can attend the school without worrying about the financial barriers. That was something I was working on as Head Prefect, and I got a lot of support from the school, which was really vital. So not only was it a students’ initiative, but we had all this support from faculty.
BSS is one of the only schools in Ontario to offer financial aid beginning in Grade 6. This support goes beyond tuition to ensure students can fully participate in the life of the school, whether through trips, uniforms, or extracurriculars. Broadening access is a cornerstone of our strategic plan.
