February/March in the News!

Pam Damoff: Wednesday March 1st

Pam Damoff, Burlington North-Oakville MP, visited Glenn Arbour to discuss current events and other community news with the Grades 4-8s. Pam rotated each class for brief Q & A sessions with students to incorporate their questions concerning her career, politics, and the community in which they live. Students were educated on this career path, and learned more about their roles as active citizens!

Science Fair

Grade 5-8 students showcased their Scientific Inquiry skills in our annual Science Fair Event. Guest judges came to evaluate the Grade 7 and 8 projects on a range of criteria. Parents and classes were invited to view the event, which took place in the gym. Students explained their Science Fair Bristol board displays, scientific methods, as well as procedures and materials. Both Nardone sisters took first prize at this year’s event! Congratulations to all who participated!

Shrove Tuesday: February 28th

GAA recognized the Catholic tradition of Shrove Tuesday on February 28th with a pancake breakfast. GAAPTA members and parent volunteers helped to deliver pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice and fruit to each class in order to recognize this day, which precedes Ash Wednesday, or the first day of Lent. Parents generously donated items for our school celebration! Thank you!

Sumo Wrestling: March 6th

As an award for their shoe drive collection efforts, the Grade 5s competed in a Sumo Wrestling Match with Mrs. MacKinnon and Coach. Grade 5 students got to show off their take-down skills and drills in exciting two minute rounds! All students were invited to attend this nail biting event!

Glen Eden: March 10th

On Friday March 10th, GAA students from grades 4-8 attended a skiing field trip at the Glen Eden Ski Resort. Students engaged in a lesson and enjoyed the hills! A great winter activity to kick off the March Break!

Mountsberg Conservation Area: March 10th

The Grade 1-3 classes visited the Mountsberg Conservation Area to engage in a variety of curriculum based learning activities that involved life cycles, wild life and the environment. Students enjoyed the hands on activities, guided tours and learning opportunities during this field trip!

Grade 2 Travel Show: Wednesday March 8th

As part of their Social Studies unit, the Grade 2 class hosted a travel show to showcase their research and writing on the cultures and traditions from a variety of places around the world! Classes were invited to come tour the show and parents visited as well. Well done Grade 2s!
