The big picture on Monarch Academy by Monarch House

We summarized the school ourselves

Monarch Academy is a specialized private school for children with autism. It offers a personalized, strengths-based education within an environment built on connection and a sense of belonging. With small classes and a 1:3 student-to-teacher ratio, the school integrates therapy and academics through an interdisciplinary team that includes occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and mental health support. Programs emphasize emotional regulation, executive functioning, vocational skills, and community engagement. Monarch’s family-centred, evidence-based approach ensures learning plans are continuously adapted, helping students, especially those who struggled in traditional settings, succeed both academically and socially.

We questioned the school administration

1. Who are you, as a school?

"Monarch Academy is a private school for children with autism, offering a personalized, strengths-based education in a supportive environment where every child feels they truly belong. Our interdisciplinary team integrates therapy and academics to promote social, emotional, and academic growth. With small class sizes, individualized learning plans, and a focus on connection and confidence, we help each student reach their full potential."

  • Small class sizes
  • Low student to teach ratios (1:3)
  • Progressive evidence-based education model that incorporates strengths-based programming
  • Interdisciplinary approach (OT, SLP, Mental Health Services)
  • Curriculum focus on vocational skills and community engagement
  • Adjunct programs target emotional regulation and executive functioning
  • Before and after-care options available

2. What do you do differently and uniquely well?

At Monarch House, above all else, is the belief that being different can be a super-power. This informs how we approach creating unique educational programs for our students. Our educational approach for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is uniquely family-centered, individualized, and evidence-based. We actively involve families in every aspect of their child's education, ensuring consistency and reinforcement at home. Our personalized learning plans are tailored to each student's unique needs and continuously adjusted based on progress. We use the latest research and best practices to ensure effective teaching methods.

3. What tradeoffs has your school made to serve families in this way?

Information not yet available.

4. What key junctures in your school's history have most shaped its present?

Information not yet available.

5. What type of student is a good fit for your school?

At Monarch House, we often welcome students who have experienced other learning environments and realized that larger classrooms and traditional educational approaches aren't the best fit for them. Whether they come from public schools or other private institutions, our smaller class sizes and specialized individual instruction are much more effective for our students. Many of our students were previously the ones who "fell through the cracks." They might be shy or easily overstimulated, leading to academic and social struggles in traditional settings. While they might get through the day in a larger environment, they truly thrive in our smaller, more personalized setting.

6. Under what conditions would you advise a family against choosing your school?

Information not yet available.

7. To your knowledge, why do families choose your school over others?

Information not yet available.

8. How would you characterize your school's image amongst the public?

Information not yet available.

9. What aspect of your school is underappreciated?

Information not yet available.

10. What might families find surprising about your school?

Information not yet available.

11. What improvements or changes has your school made recently?

12. How will your school change in the next 5 years?

Information not yet available.
