St.John Paul Community Center Fall-term workshop series (Part 1)

What an amazing end to an incredible week! As we finished up our first animation workshop at the St.John Paul Community Center we're pleased to see the excitement of the students as they anticipate developing their personal projects in the weeks ahead.

In our first Cartooning workshop we discussed the basics of Classical animation, having given the students a task of loosening up their hands by drawing squiggly circles, we moved on to covering the basics of their first 3-frame animation. With hands-on practical use of water balloons to demonstrate the 1st Principle of animation, (Squash & Stretch), we moved on to animating their own make-belief characters, applying what they observed with the water balloons, squashing and stretching their characters, bringing them to life!

Some students created ice cream cone characters, another created a sock and shoe character, and even more bold, a child created an Incredible Hulk style character. As they made their character into clay figurines, we saw the talent of one girls' Avatar figurine come to life as she posed her figurine running towards the Incredible Hulk! I think we have a new superhero in our mist ;)

We also made a big announcement,  as we continue workshops throughout this term, our students will not only see their animation come to life in their flip book but they will be able to see their animation in an actual App that we are building, a little mini-game that they can show their friends. We're making real professional animators and are proud of our children's cooperation in our production!

Make sure to log back in next week to read the next post of workshop # 2
