During the school closures due to COVID-19, MGA has provided its students with a rich online learning program which engaged students and enabled close communications between school and home. Strict protocols keep our classrooms safe for student learning.
What learning looks like now: A comprehensive COVID-19 Protocols package was shared with parents in August, 2020 that outlined the safety measures that the school had put in place to ensure a safe learning environment for our students. These included placing students safely distanced from each other in their classes, assigning cohorts for outdoor play, screening at designated entry doors, making masks mandatory, providing shields, installing air purifications units in all classrooms, establishing regular hand washing times at designated stations, and providing hand sanitizer. Careful planning enabled us to limit contact between students and teachers. In the primary grades, a teacher assistant provided support during outdoor play time and in class, working collaboratively with the classroom teacher. In the junior grades, all subjects were delivered by the classroom teacher. The intermediate students became a cohort and special subject teachers, including the home room teacher delivered these subjects using a rotary system. French classes were on-line for all grades. Our instrumental music and drama program have been suspended for the year as well as our competitive sports program. Visit our website to read more about our protocols.

What Meadow Green Academy says: September 2020 began at MGA with in-person learning at both our primary and junior/intermediate campuses. A comprehensive COVID-19 Protocols package was shared with parents that outlined the safety measures that the school had put in place to ensure a safe learning environment for our students. Some families chose on-line learning from the outset. These students were welcomed daily and engaged with their classmates for a full-day of learning using the advanced technology that the school utilized.
View recent COVID-19 updates from Meadow Green AcademyMeadow Green Academy offers bus transferring. Service options offered are regular rider, occasional rider, door-to-door pickup .
Additional notes: Families who have children at both campuses can make use of our free shuttle service. This enables our older students in grades 4-8 to be dropped off at the primary campus and be transported by school bus to and from the junior/intermediate campus. There are spaces available for door-to-door pickup and drop-off and can be arranged through the office. This is available only to those families who live within a designated distance from the school.
Georganne MacKenzie founded Meadow Green in order to offer an academic program that was both rigorous and inclusive of Christian values. The approach is as consistent as it is committed to addressing the specific needs of each learner, both academic and social. In crafting the curriculum MacKenzie wanted to reflect the academic traditions of strong core language, numeracy, and assessment, while also bringing in modern best practices. The ideal student is one operating at the upper end of his or her peer group, and who is able to thrive in a challenging, diverse, and cooperative learning environment.
Particularly popular in the younger grades (preschool to elementary), but sometimes available all the way up to high school, Montessori schools offer an alternative vision to the standard lesson format of most classrooms. Instead of listening to whole-class lessons, Montessori classrooms allow students to choose which "tasks" or activities interest them. These tasks centre around special Montessori puzzles - their essential feature being they contain a right answer and allow for selfcorrection. A strong emphasis is therefore placed on lessons being concrete and rooted in practical experience, along with students developing a sense of self-sufficiency, confidence and curiosity.

Whole-class lectures should be given semi-regularly (e.g., at the beginning of a lesson or a week). While students often learn best through group and independent work, it's sometimes important for teachers to set the stage for and contextualize learning.
External special education support is very important. Outside specialists are regularly brought in to support students with many different types of special needs, including developmental and learning disabilities, language and speech issues, behavioural issues, and advanced learning abilities.
We have a fairly wide range of specialist teachers and classes (for instance, in languages, music, and art). Core teachers are well-equipped to teach most subjects.
Modern-day technology is used in moderation since it can be a distraction. For instance, computers and other digital media might be used for research, writing, and multimedia projects.
