The big picture on Kendalwood Montessori & Elementary School

We summarized the school ourselves

Kendalwood blends the Montessori approach with the structure of Ontario’s Ministry of Education curriculum. As a result, they offer a program that supports strong academic growth while also nurturing independence, confidence, and social-emotional development. Kendalwood’s classrooms are grounded in classic Montessori principles—hands-on learning, individualized pacing, and an emphasis on responsibility. Yet, they also align closely with provincial expectations, offering families a balance of philosophy and rigour. From PreCasa through Upper Elementary, the school focuses on readiness, observation, and meeting each child where they are. Younger students build early independence and practical skills, while older students engage in interdisciplinary work that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and deeper thinking. Another defining feature of Kendalwood is its strong sense of community, where families, educators, and students are active participants in a warm and cooperative environment.

We questioned the school administration

1. Who are you, as a school?

"Kendalwood provides an authentic Montessori education for children 9 months to 12 years old. A CCMA-affiliated school, we provide bright, modern classrooms, passionate accredited teachers, & an inclusive approach to tuition. Our enriched curriculum includes French immersion in Kindergarten & Elementary, STEM, Music, Choir, Art, Yoga, & Physical Education, ensuring well-rounded development of mind & body. A nurturing environment that fosters independent thinkers who are curious, confident, & academically excellent."

  • Montessori-based education with a strong, structured elementary program with emphasis on French.
  • Child-centred learning that supports independence, confidence, and curiosity
  • A warm, values-driven community preparing students for lifelong success

2. What do you do differently and uniquely well?

We truly live the Montessori approach, giving each child the time, space, and guidance they need to grow at their own pace. From an early age, children are immersed in French through our AIM and Core French programs. Our days are enriched with music, art, STEM, and creative after-school activities like gardening, yoga, Fun & French, and baking.

3. What tradeoffs has your school made to serve families in this way?

Information not yet available.

4. What key junctures in your school's history have most shaped its present?

Kendalwood Montessori & Elementary School was founded with a clear vision to provide a nurturing, high-quality Montessori education grounded in strong academic standards. Over time, the school expanded its elementary program to meet the growing needs of families seeking continuity beyond the early years. Key moments include the development of a dedicated, experienced teaching team, the strengthening of individualized learning practices, and the establishment of a close-knit school community built on trust, consistency, and long-term relationships with families.

5. What type of student is a good fit for your school?

Children who are curious, independent, and enjoy hands-on learning tend to thrive here. Our school is ideal for kids who like to explore ideas, work both independently and in groups, and express themselves creatively, whether that’s in the garden, the art studio, or during a STEM project.

6. Under what conditions would you advise a family against choosing your school?

If a family is looking for a very traditional, lecture-style classroom where all children work on the same thing at the same time, our approach might feel too different. We believe in flexibility, choice, and self-paced learning, which may not be the right fit for every child or family.

7. To your knowledge, why do families choose your school over others?

Families tell us they love the close-knit community feel, the individual attention their child receives, and the way we balance strong academics with creativity and life skills. The French program and after-school clubs, such as baking, yoga, and gardening, are often highlights for parents and students alike.

8. How would you characterize your school's image amongst the public?

Kendalwood Montessori & Elementary School is regarded as a trusted and well-respected educational institution within the community. Families know us for our warm, welcoming environment, strong academic foundation, and commitment to nurturing well-rounded children. We are recognized for maintaining high standards while offering a personalized, child-centred approach that allows each student to thrive.
Our school is valued for its dedicated educators, consistent communication with families, and emphasis on respect, responsibility, and character development. Kendalwood has built a positive reputation as a close-knit school community where children feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn, and where parents feel confident and engaged in their child’s educational journey.

9. What aspect of your school is underappreciated?

Our after-school clubs are a hidden gem. They give students a chance to try new things such as baking bread, growing vegetables, practicing yoga, or learning French in a fun and engaging way, while building friendships and developing life skills outside the classroom.

10. What might families find surprising about your school?

Many parents are surprised to learn that French is introduced in our Infant Program and continues through Grade 8. They’re also delighted to see how multi-age classrooms create a natural sense of mentorship, with older students helping younger ones.

11. What improvements or changes has your school made recently?

We’ve refreshed our learning spaces to make them even brighter and more engaging, and we’ve expanded our after-school program to include more hands-on and wellness activities.

12. How will your school change in the next 5 years?

We plan to keep building on what we do best offering more opportunities for experiential learning, expanding our outdoor and garden programs, and continuing to blend Montessori principles with modern enrichment so our students are ready for the world ahead.
