The big picture on Globe Cambridge School

We summarized the school ourselves

Globe Cambridge School (GCS) is an independent day and boarding school that offers small classes, world-class programs, and mentorship to prepare confident and globally minded leaders. Founded in 2008 as part of the Globe Education network, GCS combines the International Baccalaureate (IB), Pre-AP, and Advanced Placement (AP) pathways with personalized learning plans that ensure every student is challenged and supported. Expert faculty mentor students through academics, competitions, and leadership development, while a strong wellbeing network integrates counselling, athletics, and the arts. With its 7:1 student-to-teacher ratio and data-informed assessment model, the school emphasizes depth, inquiry, and character. Families choose the school for its balance of academic excellence and genuine care, where each learner is known, guided, and inspired.

We questioned the school administration

1. Who are you, as a school?

"Globe Cambridge School is a purpose-built K-12 day and boarding school in Toronto where every student is known, challenged and supported. Our distinctive academic pathway-from IB PYP and Pre-AP to OSSD and AP-combines rigorous learning with personalized mentorship, small classes and opportunities in innovation, arts, athletics and leadership. In a diverse, nurturing community, students develop the knowledge, confidence and global perspective to gain admission to leading universities and make a meaningful impact in the world."

  • Rigorous IB, Pre-AP, OSSD and AP pathways from Grade 1 to Grade 12.
  • Small classes provide personalized attention and meaningful mentorship.
  • Day and boarding options in a safe, welcoming Toronto campus.
  • University preparation for leading institutions in Canada and worldwide.
  • Purpose-built spaces for academics, arts, athletics and innovation.
  • Students develop confidence, independence and global perspective.
  • Leadership opportunities help students become purposeful changemakers.
  • A diverse international community that values belonging and connection.
  • Personalized guidance supports every student’s goals and interests.
  • Toronto-based learning connects students with a vibrant global city.

2. What do you do differently and uniquely well?

GCS differentiates itself through a personalized K–12 experience that combines small classes with a continuous IB PYP–Pre-AP–OSSD/AP pathway. Every student receives individualized guidance, close mentorship and the challenge needed to progress with confidence.
Learning extends beyond the classroom through academic competitions, DECA, debate, robotics, AI, arts, athletics, service and leadership opportunities. Expert faculty help students connect their interests to meaningful projects, practical skills and future goals.
With early university planning, personalized support, wellbeing services and a close-knit day-and-boarding community, GCS prepares students not only for leading universities, but also to become confident, curious and globally minded leaders who create meaningful impact.

3. What tradeoffs has your school made to serve families in this way?

At GCS, our priorities are deliberate: depth over scale, personalization over standardization, and meaningful growth over competition. We limit enrollment and invest in small classes, individualized support, expert mentorship and student wellbeing rather than maximizing class size or offering every possible program.
We also prioritize inquiry, creativity and intellectual independence over excessive testing and rigid routines. Students are encouraged to connect ideas across disciplines, pursue authentic interests and develop confidence through meaningful work. While this may mean fewer large-scale offerings or more standardized pathways, it creates a more personal and responsive education. The result is a community where academic rigor is balanced with character, empathy, resilience and global perspective—preparing students not only for university, but to think independently, lead responsibly and thrive in a changing world.

4. What key junctures in your school's history have most shaped its present?

Globe Cambridge School’s history reflects a journey from local learning to a global K–12 vision. Founded in 2008 as part of the Globe Education network, the school grew from its early roots in China before establishing Globe Cambridge High School in Port Hope, Ontario, in 2018. This first North American campus shaped GCS’s culture of care, belonging, academic purpose and close community.
The opening of the purpose-built Toronto campus in 2025 marked a new chapter. Today, GCS offers a comprehensive K–12 day and boarding experience, uniting IB PYP, Pre-AP, OSSD and AP pathways in a modern Toronto setting. Each milestone has expanded opportunities in academics, arts, athletics, innovation and leadership while preserving individualized attention. Together, these experiences have shaped GCS into a globally minded school committed to academic excellence, personal growth and developing confident, compassionate leaders.

5. What type of student is a good fit for your school?

The best fit for GCS is a curious, motivated and open-minded student who embraces challenge, asks meaningful questions and is eager to grow academically, personally and socially. Students thrive in small classes where teachers know them well, recognize their strengths and provide individualized guidance. They balance independence with collaboration, respect diverse perspectives and contribute positively to the school community.
GCS is ideal for learners who value academic excellence alongside creativity, character, leadership and service. Families choose GCS because they see education as more than grades and credentials; they value inquiry, wellbeing, global awareness and personal growth. In our supportive day and boarding community, students pursue their individual goals while developing the confidence, resilience and empathy to succeed at leading universities and lead purposeful lives.

6. Under what conditions would you advise a family against choosing your school?

Globe Cambridge School may not be the right fit for families seeking a highly standardized, test-driven or strictly competitive environment. Our inquiry-based approach asks students to participate actively, ask questions, think independently and take ownership of their learning. Students who prefer rote instruction, fixed routines or simply following established answers may find our creative, discussion-rich classrooms less comfortable.
Families seeking a very large school, highly regimented discipline model or extensive large-scale athletics may also find GCS less aligned with their expectations. Although we offer academics, arts, athletics, leadership, service and enrichment, our priority is depth, mentorship, wellbeing and meaningful growth—not competition for its own sake.

7. To your knowledge, why do families choose your school over others?

Families choose Globe Cambridge School because it offers a rare balance: rigorous academics delivered with genuine care. In small classes, students are known personally, supported through individualized learning and mentorship, and challenged to pursue ambitious goals.
Families value our connected IB PYP–Pre-AP–OSSD/AP pathway, which builds academic strength, critical thinking and global perspective from the early years through university preparation. They also appreciate learning that extends beyond the classroom through arts, athletics, leadership, service and enrichment.
Compared with larger or more standardized schools, GCS feels personal, responsive and future-focused. Compared with highly competitive environments, it challenges students without overwhelming them and develops confidence, character and independence alongside achievement. Families choose GCS because it is academically ambitious, human-centered and committed to helping each student grow with purpose.

8. How would you characterize your school's image amongst the public?

Within Toronto’s education community, Globe Cambridge School is increasingly recognized as a boutique K–12 independent school that combines academic ambition with genuine personal care. Families associate GCS with small classes, expert teachers and individualized guidance that help students achieve strong outcomes while maintaining balance and wellbeing.
Its public image is shaped by a clear academic pathway—from IB PYP and Pre-AP to OSSD and AP—alongside a culture of curiosity, creativity, leadership and compassion. GCS is seen as a school where students are known as individuals, encouraged to explore their interests and supported in developing confidence, independence and global perspective.
The defining impression is a school that feels rigorous yet approachable, future-focused yet human-centered. Families choose GCS not only for university preparation, but for a community where learning, belonging and personal growth are valued equally.

9. What aspect of your school is underappreciated?

The most underappreciated aspect of Globe Cambridge School is the depth of its everyday mentorship. Families may notice our small classes and strong academic programs first, but the greater impact comes from how consistently teachers understand, guide and advocate for each student. With individualized learning, advisory support, wellbeing services and close faculty relationships, students receive help not only with what they are learning, but with how they learn, organize themselves and grow in confidence.
This support extends beyond the classroom through athletics, arts, leadership, service and boarding life. These experiences help students build independence, resilience, communication skills and a genuine sense of belonging. The result is more than improved academic performance: students become self-aware, capable and motivated to lead with purpose. GCS’s true strength is the intentional network of relationships that makes rigorous learning feel personal, balanced and sustainable.

10. What might families find surprising about your school?

Families may be surprised by how personal and welcoming Globe Cambridge School feels. Although GCS presents a rigorous IB, Pre-AP, OSSD and AP pathway, students quickly discover a close-knit community where teachers understand their strengths, challenges and aspirations. Individualized guidance, advisory support and wellbeing services ensure that academic ambition is balanced with belonging and care.
Families may also discover that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Through arts, athletics, service, leadership and specialized programs, students build confidence, independence and meaningful relationships. Boarding students experience an added dimension of cultural exchange and personal growth within a diverse international community.
What first appears to be a structured academic institution reveals itself as a responsive, human-centered school—one that challenges students to excel while supporting the whole child.

11. What improvements or changes has your school made recently?

Globe Cambridge School is entering a new chapter of growth, innovation and deeper student support. The opening of our purpose-built Toronto K–12 campus in 2025 introduced professional-calibre facilities for theatre, music, art, design, innovation, athletics and collaborative learning.
We have strengthened our academic pathway from IB PYP and Pre-AP to OSSD and AP, while expanding opportunities that connect academic learning with creativity, technology, leadership and real-world experience.
To support the whole child, GCS has developed a stronger advisory and personalized-support system, complemented by dedicated wellbeing services and a nurturing day-and-boarding community. Faculty continue to refine inquiry-based teaching and growth-focused assessment so students receive both challenge and guidance. Every improvement reflects our commitment to combining academic excellence, personal development and global perspective in a caring, future-ready environment.

12. How will your school change in the next 5 years?

Over the next five years, Globe Cambridge School will grow as a centre of academic excellence, innovation and global learning while preserving the close relationships that define the GCS experience. We plan to expand advanced academic pathways, including additional AP courses, interdisciplinary research and partnerships with universities and global organizations.
STEM, robotics and innovation will be strengthened through enhanced laboratories, technology integration and real-world problem-solving. At the same time, we will deepen opportunities in the arts, athletics, leadership, service and global exchange, helping students develop creativity, confidence and purpose.
Faculty development will remain central, with continued investment in inquiry-based teaching, assessment and globally informed practice. We will also broaden advisory, counselling and wellbeing programs so every student receives personalized guidance and care.

Gr. 1 (current) — My son attends the GCS after-school program, and it’s genuinely the highlight of his week. Every afternoon, he comes home with a huge smile and stories about what he learned — whether it’s a science experiment, a creative writing challenge, or a kindness project with his classmates. The teachers have created an atmosphere that feels warm, calm, and inspiring. I’ve noticed how much his curiosity has grown; he now asks “why” about everything and loves exploring new topics on his own. What I appreciate most is how GCS teachers make every child feel valued and confident. They truly take time to know each student’s personality, strengths, and even their little quirks. It’s not just academic learning — it’s emotional growth, creativity, and belonging all in one place.
