Go to child profileA private Catholic school from JK to Grade 12. A top ranked school in Alberta. Based on the principles of the Catholic faith, our philosophy develops the whole child, emphasizing academic and character development, spiritual growth, and a commitment to service. Athletics, the Arts, service and leadership opportunities enrich our rigorous academic program. We implement gender-style classes in Gr. 4-9 in a co-ed environment. Our mission is to provide the highest quality education and to form Christian leaders.
What learning looks like now: In September of 2020, we will be back to in-person, on-campus schooling. Our large, new facilities, small class sizes, and thorough training for our faculty will allow us to execute the necessary measures excellently. Within the same week that at-school classes were cancelled, Clear Water Academy implemented our CWA Interim Home Learning program and provided students with laptops and packages of take-home materials. Our teachers continued to teach every school day through video conferencing, Google classroom, emails, and assessments. The engagement rate of our students has remained between 85-90%.

Particularly popular in the younger grades (preschool to elementary), but sometimes available all the way up to high school, Montessori schools offer an alternative vision to the standard lesson format of most classrooms. Instead of listening to whole-class lessons, Montessori classrooms allow students to choose which "tasks" or activities interest them. These tasks centre around special Montessori puzzles - their essential feature being they contain a right answer and allow for selfcorrection. A strong emphasis is therefore placed on lessons being concrete and rooted in practical experience, along with students developing a sense of self-sufficiency, confidence and curiosity.

Whole-class lectures should be given semi-regularly (e.g., at the beginning of a lesson or a week). While students often learn best through group and independent work, it's sometimes important for teachers to set the stage for and contextualize learning.
External special education support is quite important. Outside specialists are needed for a fairly wide range of special needs, such as developmental and learning disabilities.
We only use specialist teachers and classes in rare cases (for instance, to teach a second language). Core teachers are well-equipped to teach almost all subjects.
Modern-day technology is very rarely used in class, since it can be a distraction and interfere with development. Students at the upper levels, though, might be permitted to use a computer or a tablet to do research for a specific project.
