Day Camps

Day camps have become increasingly popular in Canada. Kids go off for the day and come back home for the night. There are numerous day camps and they offer a dizzying array of activities and experiences for children in a variety of settings. There are sports camps, computer camps, swim camps and science camps. There are day camps where children can develop their artistic flare or hone their slap shot.

Some day camps operate in the heart of the city, perhaps run by a community or arts organization, like art galleries, museums, universities or service clubs.

There are also day camps in rural or wilderness areas. Day camps in these settings offer many of the same activities as traditional overnight camps, such as canoeing, archery and horseback riding. In addition to summer sessions, day camps sometimes offer programs at other times during the year, such as March Break.

Often even very young children, four or five years of age, can find day camps catering to their needs. But day camps are not just a preparation for overnight camp later on. Day camps offer a full range of programs that allow children to reap many benefits from the experience.
