I feel that some of the extra-curricular activities usual in a high school setting are lacking at TDCH. Activities such as Student Government, Public speaking, Spelling competitions etc. are not offered and would be a welcome addition. More varied sports opportunities would also be welcome. Many of the after-school clubs and groups that other high schools offer could and should be considered.
TDCH is based around the love of volleyball. If you do not enjoy volleyball or are not particularly good at it, you, like me will be hard pressed to find kids who were not raised to love volleyball. There are 4 other sports that TDCH offers including badminton, soccer, basketball, and ultimate frisbee. I didn’t like this aspect of the school because I was a big fan of other sports like rugby, lacrosse, or football but they were not offered so I couldn’t broaden range of sports.
Other than academics, there are quite a few opportunities to develop in sports, music, band, art drama. There is also a Robotics clubs. TDCH puts out very interesting shows every year and its rated very good quality. I might be missing some that my students were not involved in. The school also takes part in mission trips and service trips keeping the students engaged globally and locally.
There are many extracurricular opportunities for every student at TD Christian. Instrumental bands (minimal experience required, and excellent teacher), amazing choir which includes young men and women from all grades, different clubs (including robotics) and of course, a huge variety of sports teams. My niece was on the ultimate frisbee team, and many of my daughter's friends were part of the school hockey team. There is a huge drama production every year, which is a great opportunity for students. The school even offers a scuba club.
For a small school, TDCH offers a lot of different sport programs. My son is not athlete and was not involved in any of sports programs this year, but I hope next year he will be involved more. It would be nice if school could offer some recreational programs, like swimming or karate, that every student could be involved in.
As the father of a boy who loves sports, TDCH provides multiple opportunities to try out and get involved in activities. They have soccer, basketball and Ultimate Frisbee to give a few examples. There is a great school spirit, so whether you are playing on the team or are simply a spectator you will love to get involved. One opportunity for improvement is that I find the boy's soccer season too short. I wished that it was longer than the current season which is only a couple of months long.
