This is my first year attending the Dragon Academy and I absolutely love it! The community of teachers and students at the Dragon Academy is different than at any other school I have attended in Canada or abroad. Being a grade 12 student and going to university next year, the Dragon Academy has definitely prepared me to tackle challenging tasks in all my subjects of interest, as well as, greatly broaden my academic interests. I will definitely miss the morning assemblies done by the school principal that are insightful and bring to light many important global events and have enhanced my awareness of pressing issues and made me on the whole a well-informed individual.
I have the utmost respect for the school leaders, namely, the principal, the guidance counsellor, and the teachers. The school principal heavily supported me with my university and future career aspirations. In no other school I have attended does the school principal have such a close relationship with her students supporting them and pushing them to achieve their goals and dreams. The guidance counsellor played a pivotal role in my university application process helping every step of the way from choosing the career path to pursue to finding the universities to apply based on a variety of needs and preferences. The teachers at the Dragon Academy have made my school experience a very memorable one. My transition to university is greatly eased due to quality of teaching at the Dragon Academy.
The teachers have made my experience at the Dragon Academy a very memorable one. The small-sized classes allow you to form a close relationship with all your teachers. The teachers are thorough in their teaching of concepts and provide you with the abilities to apply your knowledge to complex problems. They have definitely provided me with the necessary foundation to allow me to excel at university. Their passion for their subject makes you look forward to each class, and greatly increases your interest in the subject.
What I am learning will definitely be useful to me later on in life. I have received the necessary foundation in all my subjects that will greatly ease my transition into university. In addition, the academics have given me the skills to think critically, tackle problems logically and think creatively, which will prove helpful in the future.
At the Dragon Academy you are able to take part in the school play, Model United Nations, the Oprah club and student government positions. You are also fully supported by the school principal to start your own extracurricular activity, for example, I was able to start my own fundraising campaign called "Adopt an Acre" where I bring awareness to environmental problems such as climate change. I hold fundraisers for the Dragon Academy to adopt an acre of New Brunswick’s Acadian forest to support the work of Community Forests International in renewing and protecting the Acadian forests. This fundraiser is an example of the many things you can start as a Dragon Academy student.
The Dragon Academy is a very welcoming, tightly-knit community. The students care deeply for one another and are very accepting of who you are. I was immediately welcomed into the school by the students.
School life is well-balanced; you are taught how to manage your time efficiently and maintain a work-life balance. I particularly enjoy starting my school day with the morning assemblies done by the principal which draw your attention to ethical and social issues that are going on in the world and stimulate new ways for you to think about the world. Attending my classes throughout the day is also very enjoyable as the classes are thought provoking and improve my understanding of course materials, and I love being constantly challenged and taught how to tackle complex problems.
The Dragon Academy is definitely home to me. The Dragon Community is very accepting making everyone feeling included and appreciated. As a new student, I was made to feel welcomed and met many amazing people. You are also always given the support you need by the school leadership.
I tend to stay at school throughout the course of the day. There are always study spaces for you to find time to work around school but the location make it so that you also always have things around you. When I go off campus, I enjoy going to the various parks close to the school, for a walk down Bloor street, or to visit the Royal Ontario Museum.
My advice to anyone that is planning on applying for admission at the Dragon Academy is to meet the principal and visit the school for a full school day. Going for a visit made me get a sense of the community, the friendly atmosphere and quality of teaching at Dragon Academy, making me very excited to attend the school and become part of that community. I highly recommend visiting the school for a day for anyone interested in applying. The admission process is very simple - you meet with the school principal so you get to know each other and you fill in the application with questions about yourself. You really just have to be yourself.
