(5) Student Experience

My children love the teachers and the students at SCELS. We have met a lot of great families while attending SCELS, we only wish it went beyond grade 2 for boys and SK for girls so they could stay here forever! The staff at SCELS make the school so amazing. They design individual goals for the children using feedback from the parents. Each child’s educational path is unique.

(5) School Leadership

Ms. Hamilton and Ms. Cumming are not just administrators, they are involved with the children and know so much about each and every child. They have weekly assemblies where they get the children excited about the events of the week and they visit the classrooms to really get to know each student. Ms. Hamilton has been an integral part of helping us select a future school for our daughter.

(5) Teaching

The teachers all seem to love their job, but more importantly, love the children. They are always available in the mornings for meetings or phone calls and they are quick to respond to emails. They love having parents come in as special guests to read or do an activity with the kids, which can really make you feel part of the learning process.

(5) Academics

Being a primary school, SCELS has the perfect combination of academics and social play. I wanted a school that understood that my children were children and SCELS meets that expectation. They deliver individual education plans to each child ensuring that each child continues to build on their strengths and grow and develop their weaknesses. The children seem to be having fun all day while learning throughout the process. I am confident that SCELS will prepare my children for any school I decide to send them to.

(5) Extracurriculars

SCELS offers extracurricular, however we have not taken part in them as I feel a school day is long enough for my kiddos at the moment . There are different clubs and activities that the students can sign up for after school.

(5) Students

SCELS is a small school with small class sizes. It provides the optimal learning environment for the children. It also creates a sense of family. I know so many families, not just children, at SCELS. The school has a lot of parental involvement, making everyone feel welcome and on a team. I have not heard of a single case of bullying and the teachers build a sense of community within their classrooms, so every child feels part of something special. It is a small school with a big heart and a lot of spirit!

(5) School Life

My son hated his previous school and cried everyday when I dropped him off, from September to June. At SCELS, he cried his first three days and then never again. I don’t know why that is, his first school was a good school, but I am just glad I don’t have to see him in tears anymore. My daughter asks to go to school on the weekends. SCELS is the perfect size for young children just starting out. They give a lot of individual attention making each child feel special and cared for. It is a great school for easing the transition to school, they do it in a calm caring way, that makes each child feel safe and cared for.

(5) Community

The level of parental involvement is high. There are class parents, a parent council, field trips and events that parents can attend and parents are always welcome to come into the class and read or do an activity with the students. You can be as involved as you want to be. For working parents that are unable to donate much time, you can feel safe knowing your child is well taken care of when not in your care.

(5) School Location

The school is located in a church in a quiet neighbourhood. The children go for walks and go to nearby parks and other places (with parent volunteers).
