Toronto Island Trip

With spring finally coming to Toronto, Keystone International escaped from the classroom for a day of sun and exploration on the Toronto Islands. The students from the Geography classes, as well as the Writing class, took part in the trip.  We left the school in the morning and walked to the ferry terminal where we boarded the boat for the fifteen-minute crossing.  The students were enthralled as they watched Toronto’s famous skyline appear the further away we got from the mainland.  As we got closer to the island it was clear that while open the island has been suffering from some flooding issues, leaving some parts of the island park unreachable by foot.

Each class was responsible for exploring the island with different purposes. The Geography classes were on the hunt for tourism attractions and activities to learn about the tourism industry that keeps Toronto Island floating.  The Writing class needed to pick a topic that was related to the island specifically such as climate change, car-less communities and daily life on the island and then produce a photo essay to express their arguments.

Everyone had a great time; some even students decided to rent bicycles to experience more of the island after they had completed their assigned tasks.  They, unfortunately, thought that their bicycles could get through a rather large puddle and suffered from wet shoes until lunch.

We all headed back at the end of the day slightly sunburnt but really exhilarated from the day spent on the island.
