21st Century Teaching and Learning

Daryl Bambic, Director of Innovation in Teaching & Learning at West Island College (WIC) describes how WIC uses technology in the classroom:

“At WIC we use wikis as a hub.  Wikis allow each teacher to personalize their own websites and encourage student participation.  Wikis connect teacher and student in a digital space where learning can be public and social.  After that, teachers use a variety of tools; from the eBeam, Animoto, Google Earth tours, Voicethread, to digital posters (Glogster), to smart pens that capture writing and voice (Livescribe), to Google Drive and Prezi for easy collaboration of presentations and documents.”

Teaching the 21st century student today means understanding how technology infuses learning.

“Students want to be active and invested in their own learning; teachers just need the right tools and an active pedagogy to enthuse all kinds of learners, even the most reluctant ones.”  -Glenn Neill, Teacher at West Island College

Technology will never replace teachers and good teaching but in this amazing time of digital learning spaces, excellent teaching will have thoughtful and effective strategies that use technology to leverage learning.
