Burlington, ON | Grades JK - 8 | Shortlist
Aside from a lot of people being totally unaware that there is a school on the service road, the location for us is superb. We are minutes from the school. I do wish it was easier and safer to walk or ride bikes to school. The school grounds are beautiful- set back from the road with lots of green space.
The school is on a large property, backing onto a forest, which makes access to natural surroundings a benefit for all students, specifically those in Edventure program.
The school is easily accessible and ideal for drop-off and pick up as it is close to my work. Its is near the highway and, as such, more of an island - not an ideal or safe place for students to walk to and from school. That said, it is on a beautiful piece of land with a forested area behind which is adequate of the size of the school. I wish the parking lot was a bit bigger as it can be difficult to navigate during pickups or during school events.
The school has a large outdoor space. The outdoor space extends very far back and perfect for hosting the community and school events. This setting feels secure and safe - which allows for outdoor play and special events. There is beautiful landscaping and a sandpit in the backyard as well for the kindergarten kids and they get to use their sleds during the winter under the watchful eyes of their teachers.
BCA is located perfectly between Burlington and Waterdown. Easy access in and out of the school with quick highway access via Brant St or Waterdown Road. BCA has a huge field behind the school and is surrounded by forest - perfect for games, activities and additional educational opportunities. I like that the school is not in a busy subdivision because traffic is less and visitors are quickly identified.
The location of BCA is close enough to neighbourhoods and main stores to be accessible, but the land around makes it feel safe and secure. It is far enough from the road and from neighbouring buildings that it is not easy for students to venture away from the safety of its grounds. The plot selected for the school is ideal, and provides a very central place for families from all different surrounding neighbourhoods to easily access the school with very short commute times.
