"We balance personalized learning, life skills, and academic excellence with intentional tradeoffs reflecting our core values:
Personal Skills & Academic Focus: Our LifeReady Program emphasizes practical life skills While we prioritize these skills, we also maximize time for traditional academics to ensure a well-rounded education.
Academic Rigor vs. Low Expectations: With an accelerated curriculum exceeding Ontario standards, we motivate students to excel. Personalized coaching supports students, though public school students may find the pace demanding.
Holistic Education vs. Specialized Focus: We start with a broad, holistic approach but transition to a more specialized focus as students progress, allowing for deeper exploration in specific areas of interest.

"At InnovOak School, students and families who thrive align with our reimagined educational philosophy. Some students need more than they currently receive, including those intrinsically motivated and seeking academic challenges and enrichment, yet lacking personalized attention in larger classes. These students excel in small groups and benefit from a coaching relationship with teachers, often missing in traditional settings. Self-sufficient students may also be overlooked in crowded classrooms. Families needing a solid foundation in traditional learning and upholding family-focused values will find our approach beneficial.
We are Private School Reimagined,!
We create a collaborative environment where parents and teachers work together to support growth but we do not interfere with parenting. We welcome prospective parents to InnovOak School, KW's newest private school, where we blend innovation with traditional foundations to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow. Serving students from Preschool through Grade 12, InnovOak offers a unique and nurturing educational environment.
As an inspected high school, InnovOak proudly grants both the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and the InnovOak School Honors Diploma. Our commitment to excellence ensures that every student receives a robust and comprehensive education, starting from the earliest years in Preschool and Junior Kindergarten.
Our educational philosophy is centered on building strong foundational roots that not only meet but exceed the Ontario curriculum. From the outset, our youngest learners are immersed in an environment that fosters academic rigor while remaining accessible. We believe in preparing each student with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an evolving world.

Traditional
Information not available
Particularly popular in the younger grades (preschool to elementary), but sometimes available all the way up to high school, Montessori schools offer an alternative vision to the standard lesson format of most classrooms. Instead of listening to whole-class lessons, Montessori classrooms allow students to choose which "tasks" or activities interest them. These tasks centre around special Montessori puzzles - their essential feature being they contain a right answer and allow for selfcorrection. A strong emphasis is therefore placed on lessons being concrete and rooted in practical experience, along with students developing a sense of self-sufficiency, confidence and curiosity.
Traditional curricula tend to be very content-based and rooted in the core disciplines. It is a structured approach that involves the teacher delivering a unified curriculum through direct instruction. Students usually learn by observing and listening to their teacher, studying facts and concepts in textbooks, and completing both tests and written assignments - which challenge students to not only demonstrate their mastery of content but their ability to analyze and deconstruct it critically. Class discussions are also used to create critical dialogue around the content of the curriculum.

InnovOak School prioritizes the traditional building blocks of student learning—reading, writing, and mathematics—to establish a robust foundation for academic success. Through structured and progressive instruction in these fundamental skills, students develop strong literacy and numeracy abilities essential for navigating complex academic challenges and future careers. Our curriculum emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills, preparing students to adapt and thrive in an ever-evolving world where innovation continually reshapes industries and opportunities. By mastering these core subjects, students gain the confidence and competence needed to pursue diverse post-secondary pathways confidently. We also focus on well roundedness by including Sciences, The Arts, French, Humanities, and Physical Education into our weekly schedules. InnovOak School fosters a positive learning environment that encourages creativity and exploration, equipping students with the adaptability and resilience necessary to excel in careers that may not yet exist. Our goal is to empower students to embrace innovation, tackle emerging challenges, and contribute meaningfully to society as future leaders and innovators. To do that, they need to be good students and good people.
Traditional Math
Traditional Math typically teaches a method or algorithm FIRST, and THEN teaches the applications for the method. Traditional algorithms are emphasized and practiced regularly: repetition and drills are frequently used to ensure foundational mastery in the underlying mathematical procedures. The traditional approach to math views math education as akin to building a logical edifice: each brick depends on the support of the previously laid ones, which represent mastery over a particular procedure or method. Traditional Math begins by giving students a tool, and then challenges students to practice using that tool an applied way, with progressively challenging problems. In this sense Traditional Math aims to establish procedural understanding before conceptual and applied understanding.

Phonics-intensive
Systematic-phonics programs teach young children to read by helping them to recognize and sound out the letters and syllables of words. Students are then led to blend these sounds together to sound out and recognize the whole word. While other reading programs might touch on phonetics (either incidentally or on a “when needed” basis), systematic phonics teaches phonics in a specific sequence, and uses extensive repetition and direct instruction to help readers associate specific letter patterns with their associated sounds.

Academic
Montessori programs aimed at preschool and Kindergarten- aged children allow young learners to choose which “tasks” or activities interest them. These tasks centre around special Montessori puzzles -- the essential features of these puzzles being they contain a “right answer” and allow for self-correction. A strong emphasis is therefore placed on learning being concrete and rooted in practical experience, along with children developing a sense of self-sufficiency and confidence. Specially trained teachers act as guides, introducing children to progressively more difficult materials when appropriate. A Montessori classroom is typically very calm and orderly, with children working alone or, sometimes, in small groups.
If you want to learn more about Montessori education, check out our comprehensive guide. You can also check out our guide to Montessori preschools, elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools.
Academic-based preschools and Kindergartens are the most structured of the different types, and have a strong emphasis on math and reading readiness skills. These programs aim to expose children to what early-elementary school is like. While time is still allotted to free play, much of the day is built around explicit lessons guided by the teacher. Classrooms often resemble play-based ones (with different stations set up around the room), but at an Academic program the teacher leads students through the stations directly, and ties these activities to a whole-class lesson or theme.
At InnovOak School, our kindergarten approach integrates the science of reading while focusing on foundational skills critical for early literacy and numeracy. Our program ensures students leave Senior Kindergarten meeting Ontario's end-of-Grade-1 expectations in both reading and mathematics. Through inquiry-based learning and proven teaching methods, students master phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies in language arts. Mathematics instruction emphasizes understanding place value, developing number sense, learning number fluency, and the basics of addition and subtraction through hands-on activities. Our curriculum includes dedicated time for science, art, music, and indoor/outdoor play, fostering creativity, curiosity, and holistic development. By creating a nurturing environment, InnovOak School prepares kindergarten students to excel academically and socially, equipping them with the skills and confidence for future success.
Accelerated
The main curriculum accelerates beyond the pace of the provincial one; ALL students do the work of OLDER public-school peers in tangible and measurable ways. This accelerated pace is maintained by the teachers and school, (through textbook selection, topic selection, grading, assignment standards and expectations, etc).
Because many students come from diverse school experiences, we tailor teaching methods through differentiated instruction to adjust content, process, and product for individualized needs. Our differentiated assessment approach provides voice and choice with customizable evaluation methods, enhancing personalized educational experiences that align with student learning styles and strengths.
