Over the summer, KidSafe is using the Crofton House kitchen to prepare, package and distribute food for children attending their summer programs.
KidSafe is a local organization that provides vulnerable children and youth with nutrition and educational programming during school breaks. Their summer programming allows over 400 children to participate in activities and receive meals and snacks at nine different sites.
The Crofton House kitchen is being used as the KidSafe ‘food hub’ where the team prepares breakfast, lunch and snacks for four of the sites, and gathers, sorts and distributes all of the food for the food packs that kids take home over the weekend. "We are so grateful for this space. The generosity of Crofton House School has been incredibly helpful to us as we work to grow our food program.” says Janelle Zwarych, Manager, Donor Engagement at KidSafe.
With the kitchen not in use over the summer, it was a great opportunity for Crofton House to continue supporting KidSafe. Over the past two years, Crofton House has donated the proceeds from the Winter Bazaar, over $132,000, to KidSafe, translating into tens of thousands of meals and snacks and thousands of hours of activities.
Crofton House thanks SAGE Dining Services and Chef Harley Darnel for supporting the set-up of this initiative and SerVantage for donating the kitchen cleaning service.
