The teachers have all been exceptional in my opinion. They teach in different methods which help the kids to learn the material and test in a fair way to truly judge the learning. They communicate regularly through email and are available for discussions when warranted. I have seen that over the years they have pushed towards a more independent learning model which will be prevalent in secondary education so that we feel confident that this transition will be smooth. Having attended for the last 4 years, we have seen this transition which help support the maturity of our son and taking full responsibility for his own progress. They stress taking care of themselves, each other, the environment and the world in which they live. I consider that to be well rounded.
As a parent, I really like the level of academic follow up with her and me to keep her on track of her assignments and tests since she has ADHD. Class notes, practice tests, morning lunch or after school extra time are all offered. This is what was lacking with her other larger school. I am thoroughly impressed with the teaching staffs' dedication and care. In fact, I can honestly say that teachers go above and beyond. My daughter also has health issues that requires a lot of catching up. The teachers were understanding and patient. They extended deadlines and offered continued support. You can tell the teaching staff were hired not only for their discipline expertise but also for their caring and dedication to their students. This is Heritage Academy's strength.
Overall, we are happy with the quality of instruction. Teachers are generally passionate, knowledgeable, and creative. One of the most amazing teachers in the school (a math teacher) unfortunately left the school last year. We are hopeful that he is replaced with someone of equal calibre, as math can be a difficult subject for many students. Some teachers at Heritage are better than others at explaining things, and some are more interesting and dynamic in their approach to teaching the material. My child has mentioned that some teachers seem more confident and engaging in teaching the material than others. This is normal in any school. Extra support is available when needed. Assignments are designed very creatively, and look like they would be fun to do (from a parent's perspective!).
