We have been very satisfied with the quality of teaching provided to our daughter at Havergal. We have always received excellent feedback from her teachers on their expectations; our daughter's progress in their classes; areas where improvement or extra work was required; and how our daughter was interacting with others at school. They have all been accessible and attentive to our daughter's needs. We have yet to come across a teacher at Havergal who was simply going through the motions, or was dispassionate about the subject matter they were teaching. All of our daughter's teachers to date have seemed genuinely dedicated to their work and to providing an excellent learning experience for their students. This has not been surprising, as most of our daughter's teachers have been teaching at Havergal for many years, and therefore are presumably interested in providing a quality learning experience at the school.
The teaching staff at Havergal is second to none. They are not only hard working but so passionate in what they do and the girls education. Here is another quote that best describes the teachers "Working hard for something we don't care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion". It is clear that the teachers at Havergal are a passionate group. They collectedly make an incredible team of educators. As a parent, I receive frequent feedback (both positive and constructive ) from my daughter's teachers. My daughter suffered from a concussion during the year and had to miss quite a bit of time from school. The teachers were so supportive and creative in helping my daughter not get too far behind.
100%. I have had two daughters at Havergal - both with different interests, strengths, weaknesses and needs; all of which were embraced, recognized and met. The quality of teachers in all areas is extraordinary - bright, passionate teachers who genuinely care about their students and who clearly love to teach. In all the subjects in every grade - the teachers are incredibly gifted educators and role models and mentors to our girls. The marking structure is tough but fair. There are frequent assessments. Teachers champion their students by motivating them, assigning interesting projects and providing extra help when needed. Teachers want their students to succeed and achieve high grades, as long as the students work hard to earn them. There is a lot of support from both teachers and the administration.
We have been so happy with the teachers our daughter has had for all of her subjects over the past 7 years. From our experience, the teachers at Havergal College have been very knowledgable and passionate about their subjects, and they have really engaged my daughter in her learning. She has developed a love of learning, and also developed strong positive relationships with her teachers each year. Both in the Junior School and the Upper School at Havergal, the teachers are very approachable. They genuinely care about their students and want them to succeed. The teachers are open and available and willing to provide extra-help if needed. We have always had very good communication with teachers at Havergal. We feel the teachers do a great job appropriately challenging and supporting our daughter with her learning.
In the beginning of each school year, Havergal hosts a “People and Program” evening for parents to essentially meet your child’s teacher(s) and learn about the curriculum and learning goals for that year. These presentations were thorough and give a sense of purpose and direction to learning strategies: Listening to the teachers speak reaffirmed to us how lucky our daughter is to be taught by educators as passionate as the teachers at Havergal. For most, their training is extensive, with many of them acquiring post graduate degrees and additional training in mathematics. Our daughter has received a high level of instruction from her teachers, who ultimately try to ensure she reaches for her full potential. Concepts are taught in a variety of methods, through group and individual discussions, investigative research, hands-on activities, numerous real life connections, textbook and workbook activities, etc., all of which contribute to a child’s deeper level of understanding.
