Burlington, ON | Grades JK - 8 | Shortlist
My 3 children chose to come to BCA. I was very shocked to see my daughter leave her prior school in grade 5 and embrace a new school and friends at a fragile age. BCA was overly welcoming and made my daughter feel genuinely valued and special- she has been absolutely prospering as a person and a student. My son finally decided to join his sisters this school year at BCA. I can honestly say for the first time that my son is actually learning. Prior to BCA I feel he was just taking in bits and pieces of academics but not really learning. His needs and learning styles were not being met. This year I have seen my son's confidence mount.... he literally glows. He is taking on new challenges that I never thought he would. He has made new friends and looks forward to school everyday. My youngest started out with a lot of school anxieties which I think we have finally overcome thanks to her grade one teacher advocating for a psych ed test to be done. My youngest is now learning and progressing at her own pace. I could not be happier as a parent.
My son loves going to BCA.
Our children love being students at BCA! Their teachers are so encouraging and positive. As parents we find teachers to be very approachable and are extremely pleased with the initiative they have taken to get to know us and communicate with us. Our kids love being challenged with hands-on programming like Curtain Call, Advanced Level Programming in Athletics (ALPA) and EdVenture. We have found our kids to be more engaged than ever. They love chapel and look forward to this time to gather with their school community. Our children have formed good friendships and are generally feeling well-accepted and encouraged in their relationships which is very important to us. There are numerous opportunities to support local charities as well as explore new, untapped skills in the arts, sports, etc. Overall we are experiencing a high quality of school life!
My child loves the teachers and is always happy about going to school, and always full of smiles when we pick up. My child enjoys learning new things each day and is always excited to tell me about school every day. For children with special learning needs, meetings are scheduled with teachers and the school special education team to set up and continually revise the individualized education plans as he need arises. I appreciate that as parents, we can also request meetings with teachers, principal, or other school staff any time during the school year to talk about our child's progress. My child has made leaps and bounds academically and socially. My child feels safe, appreciated by the teachers and class friends. The staff inculcate good values in students.
My son who is in JK loves going to school. He loves memory verses, Bible, math, gym, music, reading and free play. He is encouraged and supported and as a result, he loves to learn. As a parent, I love doing the daily drop off and pickups. The parents often talk to each other and, like the students, form friendships. At other schools I see parents waiting in silence as each is on their phone. My younger 3 year old can't wait to go to BCA and asks daily. Even though she is not a student at BCA yet many of the teachers and students know her by name and say hello. BCA is an extended family, a community and everyone is welcomed with open arms.
Our son loves to go to school every day. There are 2-3 opportunities during the day to go outside and have some unstructured time to run around in a safe area. While inside, there is a balance between structured activities and free play that lends well even to hyper 4-year-old boys. I think that BCA has found a balance of academics and the development of student character that is difficult to achieve. As students and parents alike continue to give feedback, I feel that this balance will only continue to get more refined. Any prospective families considering BCA can anticipate a warm, welcoming environment and top-notch educators. We are extremely happy with our decision to send our son to BCA, and I look forward to also sending our daughter in two years' time.
