The leadership team are amazing - so welcoming and hands on with the students, staff and parents. They know all the children by name, know how they are doing or if they need assistance. They are in contact all the time with blogs, emails and face to face. They greet each student in the morning and are there at the end of the day as well! Such a welcome change from our previous school. You feel welcome any time you are at Braemar!
School leadership at BHS is strong, consistent, sensitive and considerate. Leadership communicates effectively with teachers on a daily basis and, in this way, are made aware of potential problems in the classrooms. Mrs. Krason manages discipline in her classrooms with a firm hand and is visible in all classrooms daily. She handles problems between younger students (behaviour/routines) as effectively as she does between older students (social issues/social media). She handles communication with parents, students and teachers exceptionally well. Mrs. Pass and Mrs. Krason are a great team and their leadership style and great teamwork set a positive tone through the school and within the greater Braemar community. They are always available for question or concerns that parents may have and respond quickly to any needs that the community has. Mrs. Pass is always pushing BHS forward- looking for opportunities to improve the experience her students have.
Running a small independent school is hard. Running a small independent school that strives to make a welcoming home for its students is even harder. The administrators do a fabulous job of managing school issues in a calm, fair manner. They are refreshingly realistic about kids, and set the tone for a joyous, upbeat community that treats kids with love, respect and humour. They balance this with the need to maintain privacy and solid boundaries when families are experiencing turmoil. They have gone out of their way to support kids who are struggling (as happens at every school), while keeping a steady hand on the school as a whole.
The school leadership goes above and beyond any school I've seen or even read about. They take the safety and well-being of the entire community into account at all times. The principal and director are quick to respond to any issues or concerns, and they take them very seriously as well as ensure communication is clear and respects people's privacy. Decisions are made strategically, consulting necessary individuals or parties, and consider various perspectives and implications before rendering. Any discipline is conducted fairly, though the school environment is so well-established and positive, that major disciplinary action is pretty much unheard of. Students and parents are well aware of expectations and maintain proper conduct and appropriate interactions at all times.
The part that stands out for our family when dealing with school leadership and administration was approachability. From the very first tour of the school with Mrs. Minutillo (former Exec. Director), the friendly voice on the phone Ms. Woodburn, to the welcoming hello's in the hallway from Mrs. Pass (Exec. Director) and Mrs. Krason (Principal), we had the feeling of approachability. Communication has evolved over the 12 years that our children attended Braemar from a paper-based to an electronic-based system. We were very happy with the communication from the school's leadership from both the student's and parents' views.
