Our written expression program teaches a systematic approach to writing along with practical strategies. The writing process is broken down into manageable, easily repeatable pieces and provides students with strategies to apply in future writing endeavours. These group classes are offered as 1-to-1 support as well.
Power Sentences (Grades 1 - 3) - parts of speech and types of sentences, constructing stand-alone sentences, building multiple sentences with single topic.
Power Paragraphs (Grades 3 - 6) - writing process (brainstorm, organize, write, improve, edit), numerical approach to paragraph writing, how to revise work and add detail.
Power Essay - Opinion (Grades 6 - 9) - foundations of writing and writing process, planning and organizing ideas using graphic organizers and templates, structuring and composing effective essays, revising and proofreading.
Power Essay - Research (Grades 9 - 12) - essay writing process, developing research skills (locating/evaluating sources, writing annotated bibliography, note-taking, plagiarism, paraphrasing, APA, MLA, Chicago Style), revising, editing and formatting.
