Join fellow 2SLGBTQ+ youth to explore Northern Ontario!

This canoeing adventure will take you through Algonquin Park’s calm lakes and ancient forests. In the evenings, after a long day full of activity, debrief with your 2SLGBTQ+ peers while sitting around a campfire at your lakeside campsite. Your instructors will help create a supportive space to learn technical and personal skills to help you thrive in your daily life. This unique course will help you unlock your true potential and realize that you are capable of more than you think while being immersed in a community of other 2SLGBTQ+ teens.

Algonquin Park is located within the traditional territories of the Omàmìwininìwag and Anishinabewaki Peoples. Your group will travel along ancient canoe routes surrounded by maple-covered hills and rocky ridges.

You will navigate flatwater in a canoe, learning the strokes and techniques along the way. Everything you need for the expedition will be brought with you. The skills developed on the journey include paddling strokes, map reading and navigation, camp skills, Leave No Trace, and teamwork and leadership. This route may include portages where you will need to work as a team to carry your equipment.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Resilience: Participants will step out of the comfort of daily routines and into an adventurous and exciting, yet foreign and uncertain environment. Using the course's challenges, instructors will teach participants how to transfer the skills they learned to their everyday lives.
  • Interpersonal skills: Participants will create a strong sense of community with their peers as they travel through the wilderness, learning how to work together to accomplish daily tasks and make decisions.
