Exciting Changes from the MISSISSAUGA YOUTH THEATRE
Big plans are underway as we move towards our 25th anniversary season in 2015.
The first significant change is our new name…wait for it….(insert drumroll here)…
THEATRE ATOMS
A new website is currently under construction! It’s www.theatreatoms.com and it will be ready soon! You’ll be able to renew your memberships on line and find out about upcoming events, camps and auditions.
We are also excited to announce that our hugely successful summer camp will be happening at the Maja Prentice Theatre this summer in 2014. This means one great venue for all our camp sessions and summer productions!
Why the name change? When MYT first started in 1990, there were no other theatre companies for young people in the area – and certainly no other MYT’s. Since then, some wonderful companies like Milton Youth Theatre and Markham Youth Theatre have sprung up – and we find that we are no longer the only MYT. So we thought it was time to better show our distinct character with a new name.
After much consideration, we chose “Theatre Atoms” for several reasons. We all know that an atom is a very small particle that is known as the building block of the universe. And we know that when atoms combine, they can form great things! We believe that great theatre is based on the same principle – when people work together in all aspects of theatre, awesome things can happen! And we believe that happens for us.
And of course, as many of you know, one of our core rehearsal activities has always been playing the game “Atom”!! (Parents – ask your kids about the rules of “Atom”. Better yet – get them to play it with you!)
We want to keep bringing you the best possible experiences in theatre. And we want to make sure that we continue to combine the expertise of professionals with our enthusiastic and vibrant membership.
