Theatre Atoms started as The Mississauga Youth Theatre back in 1990. The award-winning theatre company has always existed to provide young people an opportunity to experience all aspects of theatre. Led by current theatre professionals, the organization continues to produce high quality theatre and offer exceptional theatre camps. The new name is all about focusing on the young people and continuing to provide amazing experiences. "We chose the name Theatre Atoms because we like the analogy of atoms to young actors. One atom on its own cannot do much. But when you have a bunch of atoms together, you can create all sorts of incredible things. Well, when you have a group of people working together - like atoms - you can produce fantastic projects in the world of theatre. It takes a team effort and everyone is equally valuable in the theatre process" explains artistic director Denise Oucharek. Theatre Atoms is currently working on a brand new website (www.theatreatoms.com) and hoping to have it up and running by the end of February 2014. The camp is run by incredible professionals and it's small and personal. The teacher-student ratio is excellent with 2 full time staff and 1 assistant, there's a lot of attention to every young person as capacity is limited to about 25. There is an actual planned curriculum of music, drama and movement that allows each camper to explore theatre and music in a fun and educational manner. Oucharek finds it easy to promote the camp: "We are so proud of this camp. We take a lot of time to plan activities and the experienced instructors make all the difference. It's amazing to see young people walk out of the camp with improved self-confidence and a love for theatre." It's one of the most affordable theatre camps in the area.
