When you grow up dreaming of runway shows, stealing your mom’s Vogue magazines, and obsessing over the glitz and glamour of the fashion industry, there is little that can stop you from becoming the fashionista that you were destined to be.
Then suddenly you are required to create a portfolio to get into your dream school like Parsons, Central St.Martins and SCAD. But where do you start? What do you need to include? How do you draw? These are some of the questions we can help you answer during our Portfolio Preparation class taken by alumni Olivia Asgari.
SCAD was Olivia’s dream school since they came to her high school in grade 11. Instantly she knew she had to go there! Olivia spent 2 years attending sewing and design classes with TCFDA before she set her sights on SCAD. Once she knew it was her dream school we began to help her create the portfolio that led to her SCAD acceptance!
With us, she created two capsule collections and a gorgeous dress submission. Olivia’s collections were inspired by nature surrounding her and the magazine clippings that her mom had been saving her for years. She used muted tones and manufactured textures to create her collections. Take a look at her creations below!
Fast forward to present day and Olivia has just started her Journey at SCAD, “what I’m most excited about getting into a creative industry is that there are really no limits.” Olivia said.
We asked Olivia some of her biggest takeaways from over the time she did her portfolio with us; one of her biggest learnings was to not be afraid to mess up, because that’s when you do your best work. We can’t wait to see how Olivia grows in the industry, and we’re so happy we were able to help her achieve acceptance to her dream school!
