High School English program is designed for self-directed, self-motivated learners in grades 10-12 who want to
challenge themselves beyond secondary school expectations. Students in this program develop enhanced reading,
writing, presentation, research, and critical thinking skills. The outcome of study in this program is confident learners
who are well-equipped to succeed in any English Language Arts program.
Learning Objectives
Composition:
1.1 To demonstrate understanding through the written expression.

Literary Comprehension and Analysis:
2.1 To use, and to identify literary devices.
2.2 To read meaning behind text.
2.3 To form a personal hypothesis based on text.
2.4 To identify themes, motifs, and patterns.
Media Literacy:
3.1 To discuss complex, and abstract concepts.
3.2 To identify political figures and historical events.
3.3 To respectfully discuss controversial issues.
3.4 To identify multiple perspectives in an issue
3.5 To look at media sources critically.
Speaking Competency:
4.1 To express insights and opinions fluently and confidently.
4.2 To ask critical and insightful questions.
4.3 To prepare well-organized and aesthetically pleasing presentations.
