      Type: Need based
Details: Please see contact us for more information and eligibility requirements.
Application Details: The Alton Edwards Bursary is in honor of a loving son, husband, brother, father and grandfather. Alton Edwards (1939-2004) believed that through sport, children can build self-esteem, leadership and social skills that would weave a positive thread throughout their lives. Alton, in his firm and quiet way, was more than a cheerleader he was a teacher. He ensured that his positive beliefs were passed down to his six children and to all children he came in contact with. Whether Alton was teaching his grandson the joy of fishing, or explaining the ‘sweet science’ of a boxing match, there was always a message in his words; a message that was always teaching the benefits of involvement in sport, of sharing each person’s special gifts, of not taking life too seriously and giving back. At Four Point Basketball we believe, as did Alton Edwards, that athletes wanting to realize their potential should have the opportunity to do just that and not be denied due to financial limitations. In Ontario hundreds of athletes are denied the opportunity to further their development due to one simple fact: lack of funds. The Alton Edwards Bursary was established in 2012 to provide an opportunity for those athletes that would not have the means to participate in camps and clinics. This grant is a way to turn participation in sport into a greater learning tool. Athletes are be provided with resources and techniques on: team-building, how to deal with disappointments, how to improve self-confidence and help in developing a positive character, all while exploring and experiencing the joys of camp. The support provided by the Alton Edwards Bursary Program is available province-wide for athletes aged 9 to 18 who are currently enrolled in school. The goal of the Alton Edwards Bursary is to provide financial assistance to children and youth in need to attend our summer camps and clinics. Every time we help a family, we honour the memory of Alton Edwards; a great man who loved his family and sport with all his heart.

The Our Kids review of Four Point Basketball

    our take

The pursuit of excellence is what sets Four Point Basketball apart from other sports camps. What’s unique about this camp is that it focuses only on basketball and shuns away from anything that distracts from the core mission of improving your skills at basketball. The program has been masterfully crafted and is designed for more advanced players in their preteen years. It looks to develop sound habits, techniques, and skills related to elite basketball. Coaches are experienced and do a great job challenging players in a way that is positive and encouraging. They stand as positive role models who show maturity and patience, along with their skills. Feedback is important at all stages of learning, so Four Point Basketball has a thorough feedback system that helps kids both during and after the program. This program isn’t all work though—there is much fun and laughs to be had. Everyone here is in love with the game of basketball and it really shows.

An approach that is refreshingly unique

I've had the privilege of being coached by Coach Jey-son, who is someone truly exceptional. His approach is refreshingly unique, tailored to my personality rather than one-size-fits-all. He possesses a deep knowledge that ensures every lesson has a purpose and real-world application. Workouts with him are both intense and incredibly enjoyable. The best part is that every session is a positive experience, regardless of its duration. What sets them apart is his ability to keep things fresh and unpredictable, always introducing innovative drills. Training with him is a game-changing experience, one that constantly offers a perspective that few coaches can provide. ... Show More

Techniques where great outcomes always follow

Coach Jey-son is mindful when correcting your shooting form and techniques. He specifically focuses on how your body usually performs and makes adjustments from that. He works on your form the top and bottom to make sure everything is flowing right.. He provides the best tips on how to work on your techniques where great outcomes always follow through. ... Fun, engaging and competitive

During the off-season, I found it extremely difficult managing my work schedule with figuring out how and when to train. Sometimes I felt unmotivated and unsure of how to make my workouts more engaging while also getting better. Whenever I got in the gym with coach Jey and his staff, I always felt competitive with myself and my mistakes because they were always pushing me to be the player that he believed I am. They produced a fun, engaging and competitive environment whether you were training with yourself or training with others. I found myself being able to notice my bad habits through his critics and we were able to work through them and figure out how to get rid of them without changing the good habits. ... Show More

The Four Point Basketball philosophy centers around four fundamental facets of basketball shooting: Form, Accuracy, Range, and Speed. Our approach involves employing game-situational drills, one-on-one interaction with athletes, and high-volume repetitions to enhance their shooting awareness. Through meticulous analysis and breakdown of individual aspects in each athlete's shot delivery, we facilitate improved shot efficiency.

At Four Point Basketball, our commitment is to provide athletes with a holistic experience, fostering enjoyment and a sense of accomplishment through player development and the pursuit of excellence. We are dedicated to equipping athletes with the essential skills and tools to attain their goals.

Our staff comprises positive role models who undergo extensive pre-screening and training. This ensures that our counselors, coaches, and guest speakers embody qualities of maturity, patience, skill, and responsibility. We take pride in developing effective drills for shooting in various game scenarios, utilizing screens, expanding shooting range, and increasing shooting speed without compromising control or accuracy. Often, these improvements are achieved through minor adjustments to the shot delivery. Join Four Point Basketball for a professional and comprehensive approach to basketball skill development.
